Research interest
My project aims to dissect the biogenesis of cell wall in bacteria. Bacteria have invented elaborate mechanisms to construct their cell wall, maintain it and remodel it in a dramatic way during cytokinesis. Some of the proteins involved in cell wall biogenesis are the targets of antibiotics, underlining their importance. I want to understand the molecular mechanisms of cell wall construction and maintenance by bacterial protein molecular machines, such as the Penicillin Binding Proteins and their cognate lipoprotein activators.
